The radiologist turned the computer screen to face Mom.
He did not have to say anything, and he did not attempt to. It was clearly defined on the screen what and where the problem was. There was a huge mass on the scan, the size of a small potato.
The diagnosis, as we learned later, was a tumor cyst on the left frontal lobe of the brain, measuring (6cm X 5cm), of which (3cm X 2cm) was the tumor tissue, the rest was fluid, the whole mass covering almost a quarter of your little skull.
There was a loud silence in the room.
Slicing the stillness, and shrugging her shoulders, Mom said confidently,
“A miracle is about to happen.”
“It’s six by five (6 X 5) …” Dad began quietly.
“ Yes, I know," Mom cut in with emphasis.
"It’s only six by five (6 X 5),” she repeated.
“Thank God, it’s NOT seven by six (7 X 6)...”
Your mother finished impatiently.
At the park, feeding bread to the fishes ...
