DOT 145 : COMMUNION

THE FINAL CHAPTER : A SPIRITUAL JOURNEY (Sept 2009 to Jan 2010)
At the Grotto of Our Immaculate Conception, in Lourdes
Daniel (14+ years old) (Sunday 20/9/2009)
Day 11 in Lourdes
NOVENA DAY 3

When You were finally ready, You came out of the room.

Looking at You walking on your own ... like normal ... made Mom’s eyes blurred momentarily. You looked so – normal. Your outfit was complete with a matching scarf and a brown military jacket that belonged to your Aunt Carol that You wore above the tee - shirt.

On top of that, You were having a good hair day.

The part of your hair that You wanted to stand, was "all standing very nicely," You said, as You gave the spiked - up part a careful pat. That made Mom grinned. You always knew how to put a smile on our faces.

That was your gift.

Today was going to be a wonderful day, Mom could feel it already. Everything was just so - normal. We were going to walk together to the grotto.

Dad suggested that we asked someone to bring Holy Communion to the hotel for You. We have not attended any of the masses since we came to Lourdes, so have not taken the Body of Christ.

Mom thought we could only get someone to come to us, when the person is asking for his last rites, like on his death bed.

You were far, far, far from that. Did You not say that You were going on a date? No where were You near any death bed. God forbid.

Before we left the hotel, Aunt Laura called out to You, "Mother Mary knows your desire to go to the grotto to spend some time with Her, Daniel ..."

You replied with a shy smile. Yes, it showed in your face. A beautiful face that radiated complete faith.
