DOT 13 : CHAOS

Daniel (7+ years old)

Tuesday, November 5, 2002

“He needs to go for a surgery to remove the mass, and after that, we’ll probably follow-up with chemotherapy,” advised the doctor.

Mom suddenly felt weak in the legs.

Her head was in turmoil.

The severity of the circumstance was beginning to sink in and her thoughts were in chaos. There were so many questions to ask, but she could not utter a word.

Instead, she stood there - motionless - like a solid lump of rock, to which the doctor mistakenly interpreted,

“You are very strong. Most mothers would have collapsed.
You are very strong.”

After the doctor left, Mom ran into the room.

Pulling Dad out by the elbow, Mom burst out hysterically,

“We’re getting out of here. You heard him. He can’t see Daniel in university. How can he be Daniel’s doctor when he can't see him in university?”

Dad agreed and did not need convincing.

“We’ll stay one more day, and take him out tomorrow...”

Before snapping the photo, Mom said "Think of something funny..."
and the both of you burst into giggles and laughter. :D
